Main road closure brings traffic through Binfield Heath
Binfield Heath will bear the brunt of the diverted traffic when the main road is closed after the August bank holiday. The work to reinforce the A4155 near the Flowing Spring was delayed until after the Reading Festival, which also helped to keep normal access to the Binfield Heath Flower Show.
The official diversion route from Sonning to Henley is almost 25 miles long, winding through Caversham along the A4074 to Crowmarsh Gifford and then via the A4130 to Nettlebed and on to Henley. The fear is that many HGV drivers will prefer to use short cuts through the smaller villages around Henley, including Sonning Common and Harpsden.
Vehicles over 7.5t are to be discouraged from coming through Binfield Heath unless they are due to stop there for service or deliveries. There will be signage at both ends of the village.
Oxfordshire county councillor, David Bartholomew will be keeping a close eye on developments over the scheduled nine weeks' work.A4155 Main Diversion Route 2
