Pressure mounts for third bridge

OCC has objected to the scheme proposals as they stand on the basis that the costs have been significantly underestimated and mitigation measures for the South Oxfordshire road network have been neither specified nor costed. The Bridge Steering Group, led by MPs including John Howell and Theresa May, is likely to reconvene in the autumn.
County councillor David Bartholomew opposes the plans as they stand and is urging local people to write to John Howell. The most relevant argument would be to ask him to insist that the project is budgeted and planned as a whole, taking in the building of the bridge plus the traffic control and environmental issues which will be needed for the communities on the Oxfordshire side of the bridge.
David says: “My view is that proponents of the scheme must be compelled to agree that the bridge and mitigation measures are one project and that to leave mitigation measures as a minor detail to be followed up at a later date is a deeply flawed and disingenuous position to take.”
