Hundreds of villagers celebrate the jubilee
Midday Sunday and the picnic baskets overflowed, flowers adorned the tables, champagne corks popped, Coronation chicken and Platinum puddings abounded. Julie Lee won the cupcake contest and Neil George, MC, had the winning ticket for the Swatch Watch from Crowsley in the raffle organised by Sue Summerland. Saturday's Palace concert and Sunday's pageant on the Mall were up on the big screen. Tristan Phillimore proposed the loyal toast to fizz from the Parish Council, followed by a hearty rendering of the National Anthem. Julie Cottam organised children's sports and the rain held off.
There was a steady flow of interested parishioners looking at the Parish Council's Neighbourhood Plan exhibition in the nearby gazebo.
And at the close of a happy and glorious day, party-goers took down, packed up and returned the tents ahead of the rain. It couldn't have been a better day, thanks to everyone who helped and supported this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Plus, the secret's out, now we all know what Her Majesty carries in her handbag.
